Introduction:
Marina, a 29-year-old woman, experienced deep internal conflicts due to a difficult relationship with her mother. Her mother had always been strict and critical, leaving a lasting impact on Marina’s emotional state. She sought help to learn how to accept and forgive her mother, to move forward and free herself from the pain of the past.
Psychological Context and NLP Approach:
Difficulties in parent-child relationships often lay the foundation for internal conflicts that manifest in various ways in adulthood, including low self-esteem and boundary issues. Within the framework of NLP, our aim was to change Marina’s perception of her childhood using techniques such as reframing and reinterpreting past events.
Problem:
Marina could not let go of the anger and resentment towards her mother, which hindered her ability to build healthy relationships in the present. These feelings poisoned her life and affected all aspects of her daily interactions, including friendships and romantic relationships.
Approach:
Our sessions began with a detailed analysis of Marina’s relationship history with her mother. We used a deep analysis method to identify key moments that triggered the strongest emotional reactions. By working through these memories, Marina learned to differentiate between the actual events and her interpretation of those events.
We also employed visualisation techniques, allowing Marina to relive certain powerful, “non-resourceful” situations where she listened to and understood her mother’s positive intentions behind the “bad” behaviour towards her. This combination helped Marina emotionally release the accumulated resentment and laid the foundation for a new, negativity-free life regarding her mother.
Key techniques included:
- Reframing and Reinterpreting: Changing the perception of past events and understanding the positive intentions behind her mother’s actions.
- Visualisation: Revisiting past situations to gain new insights and emotional release.
- Empathy Development: Encouraging Marina to see her mother’s actions through the lens of her own life experiences and challenges.
Result:
By the end of our work, Marina had made significant progress in her internal healing. She learned to see her mother’s actions through the prism of her own life trials and circumstances. This understanding helped soften her feelings, ultimately leading to forgiveness. Marina reported feeling much lighter and happier, with her relationships becoming more open and trusting. The emotional release from past grievances allowed her to move forward with new energy and optimism, and phone calls with her mother began to bring pleasure due to the newfound trust and realisation that her mother always had the best intentions for her.
Conclusion:
Marina’s journey from harbouring resentment to understanding and forgiving her mother highlights the transformative power of NLP techniques in resolving deep-seated emotional conflicts. Her success story serves as an inspiration for others facing similar challenges.
